Main Idea

Instructional Video
Song Video
Printable Song Lyrics

Understanding main idea is a major comprehension skill that is essential for all students to master.  The GrammarSongs video “Main Idea” is scripted at a basic level to reach students of various ages.  The lyrics emphasize the relationship between the main idea and supporting details. The GrammarSong activities reinforce the concept of main idea at a wide range and variety of skill levels.  These activities can be used to differentiate instruction within a single classroom during guided reading activities, literacy centers, or an independent working structure.  Seek activities from previous and more advanced grade levels as needed to meet individual student needs.
